For a long time, the reliance on kerosene lanterns gave Jane Namusisi constant worry. Now, a high-quality and affordable solar home system fills her home with clean, reliable lighting. “With kerosene lamps, I worried that the children would get burned in the house or there would be damage to my property.”

The Philippines is comprised of 7,000 islands. Much of the country is mountainous and prone to earthquakes and eruptions from around 20 active volcanoes. The US is a close ally and has provided military aid to help combat Muslim and communist insurgencies.
Two-thirds of adult Filipinos remain financially excluded and about one-fifth of the population lives in poverty. In addition, access to basic services, like energy, water and sanitation, education, health care and agriculture, is often inadequate.
When poor people have access to financial services and life-enhancing products, they can earn more, build their assets, create jobs, and cushion themselves against external shocks. FINCA is helping Filipinos improve their lives by supporting access to basic services through FINCA Ventures.
