Donate from your IRA

Donating from your individual retirement account (IRA) can be very tax efficient. If you need to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), you can initiate a tax beneficial qualified charitable contribution (QCD) directly to FINCA.
Please mail your check, or ask your financial institution to mail your check, to:
FINCA International
PO Box 98048
Washington, DC 20090-8048
EIN: 13-3240109
Another option available to IRA holders is to designate FINCA as a beneficiary on your IRA.
A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) is a direct contribution from an individual retirement account (IRA) to a charity or nonprofit organization. Donating part or all of your unused retirement assets – such as a gift from your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension or other tax-deferred plan – is one way you can make a gift to FINCA International.
For individuals over the age of 72, a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) of up to $100,000 annually can go towards their required minimum distribution (RMD) and reduce their income taxes.
Most people will probably not use all their retirement assets during their lifetime. You can make a gift of your unused retirement assets to help further our mission.
Retirement assets, such as IRAs, may be significantly taxed if left unused beyond a person’s lifetime. As a nonprofit, we are not taxed upon receiving QCDs or other retirement plan assets.
- Avoid potential estate tax on retirement assets
- Your heirs would avoid income tax on any retirement assets funded on a pre-tax basis
- Receive potential estate tax savings from an estate tax deduction
- Avoid income taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to our organization
- Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts
- Help further the work and mission of our organization
If you will be asking your financial institution to issue the check on your behalf:
- Request that the financial institution includes your full name and mailing address with the check. This helps us identify you as the donor so that we can correctly acknowledge your gift and send you a tax receipt.
- If your financial institution cannot include your address on or with the check (this is a known issue with TIAA and several other financial institutions), you can consider asking them to send the check to your address (still payable to FINCA International) and then forward the check to us when it arrives.
If you have an “IRA Checkbook” and will sending us the check yourself, please note that:
- The IRS will not consider your gift as disbursed from your IRA until FINCA deposits the check.
- Because of year-end processing delays, we recommend that you mail us your mail by December 10 to ensure that we deposit it before December 31.
Regardless of who sends us the us your QCD, please note that donations get processed most promptly if sent to.
