Over the past several years, the FINCA Global Star Award has become a proud tradition at FINCA. The annual award shines a light on FINCA employees from around the world in celebration and recognition of those that embody the FINCA values such as warmth, trust and responsible banking.
Last year, each FINCA subsidiary from around the world nominated a “star” at their location that contributed to FINCA’s mission in three critical areas: customer focus, sustainable growth and institutional transformation. The Global Star was then chosen from the group of 15 FINCA Stars for their award-winning contributions that inspire each of us and advance FINCA’s mission and vision.

This Year’s Global Star Awardee: Grace Kaoma
This year, FINCA Impact Finance CEO Jeff Flowers announced Grace Chibesa Kaoma as the Global Star in a virtual all-staff meeting. After Jeff’s announcement, the camera switched to Zambia so attendees could witness FINCA Zambia’s celebration in support of their colleague.
“I want to thank my team,” Grace said as she accepted the award. “I wouldn’t be here without each one of you. You all taught me something each and every day. We all won this. This is ours.”
Grace Kaoma joined FINCA Zambia as a banking officer in 2020 where her exceptional performance quickly propelled her into becoming a call center officer for the commercial department. In her day to day duties, Grace is actively involved in everything from handling customer inquiries to conducting primary campaigns to supporting banking agency initiatives and more.
In addition to her extensive list of contributions, Grace mentors branch staff to help them improve their customer service skills and works with several departments to create unity. Along with being a core team member, Grace leads each day with optimism for the future. According to Grace:
“I began to see how FINCA was transforming people’s lives by providing them with much-needed financial support to enable them to build assets and take care of their families. This truly motivated me to put in extra effort in order to be part of a life-changing organization that puts women and marketers at the center of its core business and empowers them to own businesses, take children to school, improve their lives and build homes for themselves and their families.”
At FINCA, we know that the world’s greatest untapped resource is people. We believe people are capable of building their own pathways out of poverty, and our work is living proof of that. However, by having individuals like the FINCA Stars by our side, the heavy mission of ending global poverty becomes all the more possible.
