Through a multitude of partners, FINCA is working to provide access to quality healthcare and health services for underserved communities around the world.
Poverty and lack of access to affordable healthcare often go hand in hand. Paying for healthcare pushes millions of people into poverty each year. Meanwhile, a lack of access to treatments causes millions of preventable deaths. To both improve healthcare outcomes and reduce poverty, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, FINCA partners with a variety of social enterprises to provide essential health services.
Penda Health is a primary healthcare provider in Kenya. They developed a business model to offer affordable outpatient services to low-income communities. Their maternal health, well-baby clinics, and a host of other health services are improving health outcomes in communities where treatment options were either low-quality or overly expensive.
Sisu Global has designed a blood transfusion device that allows for the reuse of a patient’s own blood. And the device doesn’t require electricity. They call the system Hemafuse. With both blood supplies and electricity scarce in sub-Saharan Africa, doctors are using Hemafuse for everything from ectopic pregnancies to trauma surgery. It is an especially important life-saving tool in rural and war-torn areas.
MDaaS Global delivers affordable and accessible diagnostic services in clinically underserved communities. Focused initially in Nigeria, they build and run centers that offer ultrasounds, radiology, cardiology, and laboratory services targeted at the populations least reached by existing health services.
Stories of Resilience
