Stefan Grundmann

Chief Operating Officer

Stefan Grundmann is the Chief Operating Officer of FINCA International, where he oversees the performance and operations of FINCA’s departments.

Stefan has a strong track record of innovation and entrepreneurship in the nonprofit and social enterprise sectors. Before becoming COO, Stefan served as President and CEO of BrightLife, a FINCA social enterprise in Uganda that provides last-mile distribution and end-user financing for solar home systems, improved cookstoves, and other basic needs products. Earlier, he worked closely with FINCA’s leadership on organizational strategy and planning, FINCA Ventures, and BrightLife. Prior to FINCA, Stefan managed a $40 million portfolio of donor-funded projects at Population Services International (PSI) and co-founded a sustainable waste management company that specialized in turning organic waste into high-grade nitrogen-rich compost. His experience also includes roles with BIMA Mobile in Indonesia, Omidyar Network, and the World Cocoa Foundation.

Stefan holds a Master of Global Human Development from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and a bachelor’s degree in African studies from Dartmouth College.
