Growing a Home-Based Business

Sabrije Tehaj lives with her husband, their four young children and her in-laws in a small home in the village of Kushnin in the Has region of Kosovo’s Prizren Municipality. Her husband works in a bakery shop and Sabrije helps support the family with the earnings from her home-based business.

A creative and nimble-fingered tailor, Sabrije designs and hand embroiders the ornate traditional wedding costumes of the Has region. Hand stitching the unique garments, with their complex and colorful patterns, is very labor intensive and time-consuming for her.

Sabrije joined FINCA Kosovo’s “Temaj” Village Banking™ group to help her expand and strengthen her very successful business. She used her first 500€ FINCA loan to purchase materials and other supplies for the business at wholesale in order to save money. Her business is growing steadily and becoming more profitable. She plans to continue her relationship with FINCA to help create a better future for her children.
