World Kindness Day: How FINCA Encourages Acts of Kindness

School children in Haiti smile together

Established in 1998, World Kindness Day is an international holiday celebrating kindness. It is observed every year on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. The day encourages people to spread kindness through small acts. It sustains the notion that good deeds do not always need to be big, and it does not take much effort. People can show kindness by supporting their significant others or parents with household chores and helping younger siblings with their studies and activities. Additionally, people can take a more communal or environmental approach to kindness by watering plants, minimizing waste, and helping vulnerable individuals. Kindness not only benefits the person who performs the act, but it also has the power to improve the life of someone else, or even an entire community.

FINCA’s vision keenly relates to the World Kindness Movement. We are committed to building a global network of social enterprises that enhance lives and support kindness and inclusion for all.

Acts of Kindness Through Social Enterprise

One of the most basic characteristics of a social enterprise is meeting some sort of unmet need within a community or region. Meeting an unmet need could include: providing sustainable agricultural training for farmers in rural areas, enabling access to clean and affordable water, supplying affordable health services for people low income communities, and so much more. Whether a need is social or environmental, a social enterprise focuses on addressing the issue by centering the solution around the the people affected. By doing this, social enterprises support and empower the people who private companies and government entities often overlook. Filling this role is so important, because having your basic needs met is a kindness that everyone deserves.

World Kindness Day Activities

FINCA works every day to support inclusion and kindness for people in poverty around the world. And though we believe in being kind to everyone every day, we invite you to join us on World Kindness Day to do a little something extra . Just one small act of kindness could have the power to change someone’s day.

Below are 3 ways you can join us in participating this World Kindness Day:

  1. Perform at least 3 random acts of kindness. Treat a loved one to a cup of coffee. Hold a door open for a stranger. Allow someone to get ahead of you in line. Perform at least three random acts of kindness and see how it brightens someone’s day!
  2. Get connected. Kindness and connection go well together. Take a few extra minutes to send an uplifting text message to a friend or family member. Or even better, have a video call!
  3. Share a compliment. Give a stranger a compliment. You’d be surprised how a nice compliment can change the course of someone’s day. You should be kind to yourself, today, as well. Be sure to highlight the things you appreciate about yourself and your life.
