Hurricane Matthew Strikes Haiti

Early October 4th morning, Hurricane Matthew slammed into Haiti’s southern coast with 145-mile-per-hour winds and torrential rain.

While early reports indicate that losses of life from the hurricane were limited, it destroyed homes, schools and businesses and cut off vital transportation and communication links. Thousands are believed to be displaced from their homes.

We have had limited communication with FINCA staff in Haiti, where our eight branches serve over 35,000 hardworking entrepreneurs, but we have learned that our staff have all survived and our branches were not damaged.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti. And we stand with and support the immediate response efforts by relief agencies during this difficult time.

As we have seen in the aftermath of Haiti’s earthquake and other disasters, FINCA’s small loans can be a lifeline to families whose businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed.

FINCA is committed to standing with our clients as they courageously begin again.
